Heading to Italy

We are finally on our way to Italy! We were supposed to head out June 18 but I was having some pains in my leg. After an x-ray, my doctor sent me to the Mayo Clinic where I ended up seeing the top surgeon in the country for my problem. Turned out I had a crack in my tibia and a tumor so he cleaned everything out, removed the tumor – no cancer thank you God! Then he proceeded to fill the area with Corian cement and put a titanium plate with 6 screws over it so now guess who has to go through that silly scanner at the airport because of metal in her body 🙂 It’s all good and I’m doing great and the doctor told me to have some Chianti for him! We left Tucson this morning on a 5:39am flight – get up at 2:45am – that is so early and surely not enough sleep for me! We are sitting in Chicago at the moment and don’t leave until 5pm so we have another 3 hours to sit around. A 9 hour flight to Rome then a 3 hour drive to Monteferrante and immediately into helping with the donut festival baking. Thought I’d update my blog so we can get this party started! Took a few good photos from the plane of the sunrise so that’s all  for  today.

We will be in Monteferrante tomorrow with my mom’s side of the family, meeting cousins we’ve never met and who are totally excited to have us visit. Our first festival is the Donut Festival which is actually a huge variety of different kinds of wedding cookies made by the women in the village of Monteferrante. There is a different festival every week so it’s going to be tons of very delicious food, much wine, music and dancing in the streets. It doesn’t get any better than this – oh wait yes it does. Our children get to join us the end of the month along with my sister so yeah – good time for all.

I will do my best to keep the blog updated but understand I’ll be very busy partying:)

How exciting to finally be in Italy. And what a great beginning — a Donut Festival. What more can you want. Can’t wait to see you in Italy. Have fun.
