It was time to leave the vineyard in Chianti and head toward the little town of Orvieto. It was just a two hour train ride and when we arrived we took the funicolare up to the town then hop on a bus to the Duomo which is the area of our apartment.

The apartment is very modern with everything we need for the week we are here.

We unloaded our bags and immediately hit the streets. Turned out there are many tourists here and many tour groups! There was a Jubilee Mass with the Bishop at 4pm so we could not go into the Duomo. Decided it was ok just to roam around for a while. Lots of little shops along the way and of course some of them were yelling at me to please come in and see what we have for you.
When in Italy, I do enjoy shopping because there is always something I can find to enhance the kitchen! When you need new pasta plates, you go to Italy to buy them. That makes sense to me!

After strolling around for a bit, we returned to the apartment to relax for a while and do a load of laundry. By then it was time for dinner, walked around for quite a while before finding one we really wanted to try. The restaurants don’t open until 7:30pm for dinner so by then I was starving.
Found a cute place that our hostess recommended and it was delicious, as you can see from the photos.

This was enough for our first day in Orvieto so it was time to go to bed and we were both tired. Buona Notte!
Fantastic that you are getting around without a car. Good for you!!! (I sure wish we could do that here in the States.)
Beautiful pictures and commentary. (I remember that I was in Orvieto, but it was DECADES ago!) Loved Italy! You are both so lucky, but I’m sure you know it! Thanks for this lovely travelogue.
