4/26 So we realize we are no longer in our 30’s or 40’s and we actually relate more to the buildings we are seeing now. Very old buildings! We are walking so much that we actually come home tired! We are having a wonderful time but we know we need to take breaks in our day – now I know why the Italians stop working from 2pm – 4pm! They need their breaks too.
We spent the morning trying to finalize the paperwork on the new car. We had to go to the Europcar office to sign the papers. We walked and it was so much further than we thought plus it was all uphill. We got there and thankfully they were open. We showed them our old contract and they needed the tow truck receipt! Oh drats – it was not with our paperwork so we had to go back to the apartment to get it. Jim told them to call us a taxi – he did and this taxi driver was a hoot. He was probably in his 30’s and from Agrigento and he was using words that I totally recognized when folks were in his way or driving too slow. I could not stop laughing. Anyway he took us back for the papers and then back to the office. Now remember when I said Vecchio in the title – that means old! This is where it came into play today. We were on the way back to the Europcar office and Jim came out with an expletive! I shook my head and said now what? Jim: “Dang, I didn’t know they were giving us a car today and I don’t have my license!” Fran’s Italian eye roll really kicked in! With the meter running we had to go back to the apartment to get the license and the driver and I were shaking our heads and laughing. What can you say – it happens and you deal with it. Jim gave me permission to let everyone know he was having some old (ancient) moments lately. Almost forgot, while we were walking to the car place this morning, I heard this noise and Jim grabbed my arm to stop me from walking. He saw the snake but I did hear it, just didn’t see it. He scooted right across the sidewalk. Jim said it was a black snake so I guess no biggie. Just keep walking!
Once we got the car, we came straight home, parked it and walked to the grocery store for some stuff we needed. Ate our lunch and then went to the Museo Archeologico Regionale. It was very good and the grounds outside were beautiful.
Tomorrow we are going to the Valley of the Temples. We saw some of them on our way here yesterday and again today from the museum grounds. That is going to be a fun day with a ton of walking.
Saw this tree with the prettiest and most unusual flowers I’ve ever seen. Had to snap a photo for you.
This apartment is really cute, guess I’d better include some photos. We have plenty of room so it’s working out great. We’ve been fortunate so far with our apartment choices. The Wifi here leaves a little to be desired but at least we have it. When moving photo file between computers and the blog server or even to our own cloud site, slow Wifi can be a pain.
That is about it for today. Ciao
Your apartments are darling! I love the red, that will certainly wake you up!
Such a cute apartment and spacious enough. Beautiful scenery and so much history. Of course we are all allowed to have a senior moment or two!
