4/10 We were up early enough to attend mass at the Duomo at 9:30. There were 100 or more at mass so that wasn’t bad.
After mass we roamed around a bit deciding what we wanted to do. We were walking away from the Duomo and we kept hearing church bells, singing, and a ton of people. Well we happen to be very fortunate when it comes to finding ourselves either in the middle or very close to a festival or any ceremony that is happening. Wouldn’t you know suddenly there was a crowd of people coming right at us so we side stepped and watched then we see altar servers, priests and the archbishop, all with palms and heading to the Duomo. If we waited to go to mass until 11am, we would have probably seen a beautiful Palm Sunday service but we enjoyed this nonetheless.
We came back to our apartment to change then went downstairs to one of the restaurants for pranzo (lunch). I told Jim we should eat a pasta dish and then I can cook something we had here for dinner so I didn’t have to waste any food. We ordered Bruschetta, the tomatoes here are beyond tasty, oh boy are they good. Then we ordered Maccheroni all Norma which is a signature dish in Sicily. Pasta with tomatoes and eggplant and cheese of course – delicious. Next we had a fritta pesche, which was a mixture of fried fish. Another yummy dish.
By now it was time for a walk so we ventured out to find the train station for tomorrow when we head to Siracusa. About a 12 minute walk so that’s not too bad. No other plans for today, everything is closed on Sundays so here it is 3pm already and we are wondering how time can go so quickly.
Next post from Siracusa, Sicily! Ciao!
Loving your blog! Thanks for sharing all the “delicious ” details.
