4/9 Eggs for breakfast with some Italian bread toast, an orange and some little tomatoes and coffee of course. Then it was time to go for a walk. Today’s mission was the beautiful park about 30 minutes from here. Weather was great and there were so many people walking around and a ton of cars. You really have to be careful of the cars because the roads are narrow and yet there are two car lanes and two walking lanes and crossing the streets is always fun. Folks here have no rules for parking cars – 50′ from the corner? What’s that? How about parking at the corner or just plain slightly on the corner, blocking someone in – no problem, they can wait lol. I love the no rules here and it seems to work for everyone. I love that they park the cars with the driver side of tires right at the curb and the rest of the car on the sidewalk. Cracked me up! I told Jim how are we supposed to walk on the sidewalks when the cars are in the way? So you walk in the street and listen for oncoming cars and pray they miss you. Seems to work! One way streets – we still look both ways because you just never know. I think the biggest challenge when walking is to make sure you don’t trip on the cobblestone roads, up or down a curb or step and miss the little dips in the sidewalk. I think this is probably all good brain training – watch where you are going or else! I am not complaining about any of this because I find it amusing and I also know it would NEVER work at home!
So on to a few photo memories of today’s walk.
After walking out of the Gardens for a block or four, we found ourselves at the top of “our” street, via Antonino di Sangiuliano. Our apartment is way down and beyond the bottom of the hill on the right. It’s just across from those two tall buildings on the left. In other words, quite the hike to get up to the Gardens and also to the Porta Garibaldi earlier this week!
When we got back to the apartment area we stopped at one of the little cafes and had our first Arancini. Not my favorite food. It is filled with rice, meat, gravy, cheese – all great ingredients in a crust of some sort, just not my favorite food. Not a problem, there are way too many other things for me to enjoy.
No plans for tonight, we are both pooped so I’ll fix dinner and tomorrow we hope to go to the Duomo for Palm Sunday Mass. Hope the restaurants are open tomorrow although hard to imagine them not being open. Maybe grab a pasta dish for lunch or dinner. Ciao!
When I was in Ravelo I went to the Duomo for mass. Loved it! How wonderful you will be in Italy for Easter.
