Hair Cut – Color

5/12 Jim needed a hair cut and I was in desperate need of a color! On line I go to see what I can find. I found the most unique barbershop for Jim. It was old school and decorated really well with old and new! Checked on line for a hair salon for myself. There were many to choose from so I read the reviews and found a few all in the same area.

After Jim’s morning walk and our breakfast, off we go to see how we make out with a cut and a color! Jim first because his barbershop was on the way to the area of hair salons for me. The barber was sitting outside reading the paper so we asked if he could give Jim a haircut. Yes, please come inside. Well the inside was exactly as it looked on line and beautifully decorated. I took photos of course. Gabriele started on Jim’s hair and I knew immediately this was the perfect choice. When he was done we were both so happy with the results and Jim’s new look.

Next it was off to find a salon for me. We walked a ways because many of the shops were about 30 minutes away. As we approached the few that I was researching, they turned out not to be what I wanted. Came upon another one that I saw on line, Delù, The Concept Store. A small but modern salon – a combination hair salon and an area in the front for a event/wedding planner. The new concept! As I entered, the wedding planner (Giuseppe Luciano) was there and I asked about getting my hair colored. Yes, please wait a moment while I call the parrucchiere. Can you wait five minutes? WHAT? Are you kidding me? Who gets a hair appointment the minute they walk in the door for a color? ME!!! Oh wow, was I happy. In walks Massimiliano De Train – Parrucchiere (hairdresser) and not too hard on the eyes! Gotta enjoy the sights while we can! We discuss the color and he liked my blond and I told him I did too but I needed the roots done and some low lights. Ok off he goes to mix the solution and we get started. Jim goes for an hour and a half walk and returns just as I am finishing up with one of the nicest hair styles. Everyone was happy.

While I was getting my hair done Jim found a few more places for photo opportunities. Yes, it’s another church but this one was amazing – oh, aren’t they all? One cannot help but appreciate the beauty and the architecture of all the churches so we hope you will enjoy these photos.

Now it was time to return home stopping along the way for lunch. How we ended up going the wrong way, I’ll never know but it seems to happen often and usually ends up with a nice find of sorts. Not so much today but that was ok, made it home and found our restaurant and sat outside in the beautiful sunshine (shade of course).

Lunch was interesting. We decided to try things we have never had before and didn’t really know what they were. We had two appetizers. One was Onion Bread with Bean Cream – sounded interesting and it was actually very good. Toasted bread served with a jar of bean cream and sliced red pickled onion, pickled onion and pickled what looked like okra. Really good. Jim ordered Baccalla Mantecato Alla Veneziana (not sure what this was although I know baccala is Cod Fish.) Turned out I did not like it and Jim ate the inside but not the outside wrap which looked like tripe.

Antipasti con aperitivo

Oh let me back track a bit, we are first served sliced bread with olive oil, coarse salt and pepper. You put the salt and pepper on your plate (not too much,) put the bread on top then the oil on top of the bread. It’s totally amazing.

For my main course, I ordered Baccalla (Cod) and Insalata (salad) and Jim ordered Baccalla with roasted peppers and a sauce that consisted of a zucchini, carrots and onion purèe. His plate was delicious. Mine was ok and not quite what I expected but I ate it anyway.

Doesn’t sound like we did much today but between the hair appointments, walking and lunch, it was already 3:30. Time to quit and give the feet a break. It was after all, another 17,000 footsteps day! We like to return early and sit out on the roof and enjoy the weather. The terrace is covered so you aren’t sitting directly in the sun and it’s a great way to end our day relaxing. Listen to some music, play some cards and talk about what we want to do tomorrow. Life is good!

Baccalla Mantecato alla Veneziana is a lovely baccala dish that is a puree with salt cod and potato. I can eat it by the bucket and I’m pretty sure you’d like the ones I’ve had (in Venice).

I have not seen it wrapped in tripe or anything else for that matter.

  2. That barbershop was so unique. Jim looks really good. And of course I loved the picture of you with the two cuties. Great hairdo and color. Of course the church was amazing. How did they do that so many years ago???? Your lunches looked interesting and it is so cool to try new dishes. Keep counting your steps!

Hi Jim and Fran you both look great with the new hairdos. Color was really nice with the low lights added. Hairdressers were pretty easy on the eyes too. I liked the barber shop decor Churchs are amazing and food too. That outside terrace is really nice and a good place to end the day

Jim, your haircut looks great! And Fran, I love your haircut too. The way it is cut and styled does a really wonderful job of framing your face.

Thanks for all of the photos of the church. It’s so interesting how a church can look so plain on the outside and then be so colorful and detailed on the inside. I love those frescos. I have a rule that, whenever we’re in Europe, if we’re walking down a sidewalk and we see a church, we have to go inside. You just never know what kind of surprise you will find. Milano was particularly fun for this, because there are so many churches and they are all so different.

Love your new Italian hair styles!
Also pictures and story along with it. We are headed to Savannah so I’m reading your blog to Bruce. You are going to have us all planning a trip to Italy! We are still getting over jet lag from the Maldives.
